Example 1. I am always having to get onto him for jumping, standing or walking on my bed. It is one of those soft, marsh-mellowing foam mattresses so I can see why kids love to jump on it. I was laying in bed on my stomach late at night when I felt him walking on my back. I said to him " Parker. Didn't I tell you to quit standing on the bed?" His reply. " I'm not daddy, I am on your back." Technically right, so no spanking.
Example 2. Last night he said " Daddy. I can see the moon." I said to him jokingly " Yep. It's bright tonight. You wanna go to the moon with me?" Parker pondered for a moment and said "I don't think so. We would slip off because it is slippery." I asked him " What makes you think it is slippery and we would fall off?" "Well..It looks like snow and snow is slippery and we would slip off because it is small and you are big." My first thought was what the heck but then I realized he is right, so I chuckled and let it be.
Example 3. We were both sitting on the couch and he wanted a toy across the room on the floor by his toy box. He asked me if I would get it for him. I told him " Parker. You got two legs. You go get it." He looked at me and without missing a beat he replied " So do you." I looked at him puzzled at his candor and I solemnly walked over to the toy and brought it back. Again he was right, and since he was honest, (actually because I couldn't counter his comment) I felt compelled to do it.
So as you can see, he exhibits profound intellect and it is something that I have noticed just all of a sudden like late at night while I am sleeping, he is reading the Encyclopedia Brittanica volumes from a-z. It is really amazing to get insights to how he understands the world versus reality. He is my oldest son and his little brother who is almost two shows very little intellect. He doesn't talk yet and every time we turn around all he wants to do is sit and eat. He will eat anything as long as it passes his sniff test. He sniffs everything before it goes in his mouth. It is rather strange, but he has picked up on one thing. It must be funner to remove his clothes and pee in the floor and then use his clothes and diaper to wipe up the pee on the wood floor. And then toss it all in the trash and hide the evidence. Like we wouldn't notice that he has no clothes.
Hahahaha! This is pretty good! It’s amazing to see them think and come up with all kind of their own little decisions. I have an example for you! When my son was barely 6, we got a dachshund dog. We named her Sosiska because in Ukrainian it means a hot dog :-) Erik, my son, was absolutely obsessed with that dog. One time we went on a walk and he was a “sausage” tree. I have no idea what’s the scientific name for it, but it’s a tree with these pods that look lake huge sausages hanging off of it. If one of them fell on your head, it would knock you out! Anyway, Erik saw one of those and was convinced that those were dachshund dog eggs hanging off the tree by their tails! I remember that I laughed till I cried! ;-)
ReplyDeletelol that is funny. My son will be 1 next friday and he's not quite to that stage of being really funny yet, although the last few days, if I set sideways on the couch, he will come over to me and push his tongue against my arm, then he pulls back and laughs. He thinks licking my arm is funny lol, I guess so do I. Kids are fun, and this won't be the last time they humor you.
ReplyDeleteJoseph, at this stage it is cute and amazing that they can be so articulate. But a word of warning. Be careful how much you allow of that. Once they become a teenager it isn't so cute any more. My 17 year old son is a prime example. We call it the "Semantics game" in my house. For example. I cannot say "No T.V. for you tonight" if his chores aren't done. I have to say "Do not watch TV, nor any TV shows aired on the computer, don't ask your sister to turn on the TV, don't do anything that in anyway causes the TV to come on, don't watch the nighbor's TV....." Get the picture? I deeply regreat not "nipping this in the bud" when John was 3 and still cute. I am thrilled that you have a very smart son. They are a joy... just be aware that they grow up very fast.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you and yours

I had a revelation on day just like that about my son. One day I was just like OMG how did he get so smart all of a sudden. He was about 3-4yrs old. Then I decided it had to be all my doings. I would work with him and work with him on everything from colors to writing his name and he never seemed to get it. I think I got frustrated and stopped working with him so much. Then one day he just knew it all. It was almost like the information was delayed or something.
